Samsung is developing a new 200MP sensor, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is likely the pioneer

Imagine that kind of megapixels with Nokia/Microsoft’s PureView upsampling algorithm. I definitely won’t watch anything else, that’s for sure.

Maybe in a parallel world, cell phones advertise extreme 7000mW headphone jacks and people wonder why cell phones don’t have on-board cameras anymore. “The on-board cameras suck! Get yourself a Bluetooth camera,” fanatics say.

Megapixel wars are stupid when lens quality has been the limiting factor for at least a decade.

The 108mp camera an s21 and s22 are really useless, terrible quality that shows the amount of resolution is only to fool people and now we will have 200mp😑 when this MP war stops

200MP will be so overwhelming..
Common people will use it, then when they upload it to social apps, the quality of the image file will be lowered.

lmao

Mobilemaster, 9 hours agoIt uses binning, so actual shots will be around 12 MP, but there is an option to take full shots… moreI can’t find any information regarding binning on the internet so far… I guess we’ll find out sooner or later. Even though it’s 4-way binning, 11.75MP shots could still be very good with such a large sensor.

BTW, all the other companies provide multi-camera setups, so I like the different route Sharp is taking with their latest flagships. One powerful camera can really make a difference in photography.

They actually went the multi-camera route with the R5G two years ago (Wide, Ultrawide, 2xTele, ToF), but the phone failed to catch on in a market full of similar phones. That’s probably why they’re trying something different.

How about stopping the mp run and hoping on the sensor size > run?

I thought Motorola Frontier would pioneer this not Samsung.
The pure Android experience still prevails Samsung bloatware unnecessary and typical.

What I don’t like is the lack of a zoom camera. A 3x optical zoom would be appreciated on a flagship.

Samsung, you could dramatically improve the sensor’s light gathering and resolution capabilities, by removing the CFA altogether, and either handling everything in post, or having a CFA projection on the sensor and using dual image (with and colorless), to dramatically improve detail and light information. Computational photography algorithms will need to be seriously modified to eliminate fringing and moiré. If done right, the sensor could have some serious zooming capabilities, without needing another sensor for that.

As much as I want the 50mp, I feel like 40mp would have been a better compromise for pixel size. But 47mp 1 inch will still be nice…meanwhile Sony overloads the 1 inch sensor which you only get 12mp…and other phone specs are 2-8 years behind other phones. .. shame

Mobilemaster, 14 hours agoThose complaining that it’s a dumb idea, just wait and see what Samsung can do! … moreSo much better than his own phone, there’s nothing to be proud of. It should be so much better than others that will turn heads. It’s good quality I admit, but at night it’s horrible. I kind of think they should be able to do better with hardware, but it’s Samsung always trying to use hardware to make up for its lack of software power. I can only imagine what Google can do with Samsung’s kind of camera hardware.

What a whole boy being 40/50mp still trades with huge pixels for a phone. I was impressed with the results of the r6 so I can’t wait to see what the r7 brings

Anonymous, 10 hours agoCan’t we just get a 40mp 1 inch single bay sensor with dual aperture. Sharp brings something similar to your requests. The Aqous R7 comes with a 47MP 1″ sensor with F/1.9 aperture. It is not yet confirmed whether or not it uses any type of binning. Their last phone had a 20MP 1″ sensor without any binning, so they could really deliver a monster of a phone camera on a smartphone. Crossed fingers.

⚠️ watch out! Warning!! Watch out..⚠️

That’s enough people..!!!🤦‍♂️

If Samsung actually cares about the Ultra being “the best video/photographic galaxy”.. then they should think twice and focus on what the experts are doing.
..BIG sensors, small but powerful pixels, and a unique configuration (at least the same n-sensor aperture size for primary and UW modules)

_then add something like a laser and a 3dTOF sensor…👌
Period..!
