Detectives investigate stabbings – Welland
At approximately 11:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) officers assigned to the 3rd District (Welland/Port Colborne) responded to a reported disturbance in the Thorold Road and Rice Road area of the City of Welland.
Upon arrival, officers located an 18-year-old male with an apparent stab wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics, before being airlifted to an out-of-town trauma center by Ornge Air Ambulance. The victim’s condition has since improved from critical to stable.
Detectives have identified two young suspects and arrest warrants are being prepared. Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act prohibits the NPRS from identifying the youth involved as they are under the age of 18.
This was a targeted incident as the victim and suspects are known to each other.
