Dell rolled out its new Dell Pro webcam over the weekend, offering a cheaper alternative to the UltraSharp 4K webcam it released last year.

The new one shares some premium features, but also skips others to bring the price down.

Dell Pro 2K Webcam WB5023

Dell’s new WB5023 Pro 2K webcam is more of a mid-range offering than the Dell UltraSharp HDR 4K Webcam released last year. Like the 4K model, the new cam is cylinder-shaped and designed to sit on top of a monitor.

The new Pro webcam retails for $135 instead of the 4K’s $200 price tag. The new arrives at its price with some modifications.

The biggest difference: the new Pro webcam with Sony Starvis sensor offers QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution instead of 4K resolution. Dell refers to the new camera’s resolution as 2K, although it’s a bit higher than the base 2K.

However, with that lower resolution you get a welcome addition. The new webcam incorporates a built-in noise-canceling microphone. So you don’t have to buy one like you would with the 4K webcam.

The webcam can be permanently installed on your monitor.

Both cameras use image processing to reduce noise and improve lighting and both have automatic cropping software. And both work with Dell Peripheral Manager to help you adjust settings in Windows. But you can use Dell Display and Peripheral Manager for macOS.

Both cameras are certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom and work with FaceTime, Skype, Webex and other platforms.

Another slight limitation of the new camera is that it comes with a fixed USB-A cable rather than the detachable version of the 4K. For those who don’t need 4K and want to save $65, the new webcam might be a worthwhile purchase.
